History and heritage

Merenda & Co. first opened in 1966. It was founded by Rene Merenda, who previously worked as an underwriter for some years at Lloyd’s. Motor insurance was costly in those days and Rene introduced weekly instalments, making it more affordable for the people of Essex. The business was acquired by Clear in September 2023.

Clear acquired the book and assets of Maynard Milton Insurance Services in July 2024. Partners Martin Maynard and Kevin Milton led Maynard Milton for 30 years, prior to its acquisition. With a strong reputation in the local market and recognised specialisms in fleet and property insurance, the team are a great addition to the Southend branch.
